Psychic Children – An Introduction
Is there such a thing as psychic children or are they just attention seekers? That may well be the case for some children, but certainly not all, in my belief.
Some psychic kids would rather be good at music or sport than have to deal with things that others can’t see; family members who think they’re crazy and don’t believe them, or, family members who go to the other extreme and exploit these children’s gifts for their own purposes.

I believe that children are born into this world without much of a filter at all. They’re not born hating, or fearful, and what they see is simply what they see; they don’t judge. How many of us have heard stories of children playing with their imaginary friends and, when asked, describe relatives long passed, or previous residents of where they live?
My four year old niece was sitting with us at the dinner table, when she put her finger to her lips and said ‘shush!’ She tilted her head back and looked sideways down the hallway and said ‘the lady in the hat is there’. My sister and I looked at each other and I asked her what the lady looked like. She described my long dead Nana perfectly; house dress, wide-brimmed yard hat…. Why would a four year old say something like that out of the blue? If we praised her or made a big deal out of saying such things before, I could understand, but neither my sister nor I have ever done that, simply because we believe visits from loved ones who have passed on as fairly standard stuff.
Yes, there are charlatans out there in the world, people who prey on those who would seek comfort from their loved ones who have passed; but there are a great many more genuine psychics out there providing a genuine service to the public who have had their abilities since they were children. These abilities include seeing the dead, hearing them, remembering past lives, foretelling the future, and so on.
If you suspect your child is remembering a past life or is able to talk to dead relatives, there are a few important things to take into consideration. From personal experience, first and foremost, it’s really, really important not to freak out in front of them. If you show you’re scared and not in control of the situation, imagine how much more frightened that would make them. By the same token, making a big deal out of how proud you are of them and how special they are isn’t a good idea either because they’ll make stuff up to please and impress you even more, kids are like that. They could well develop a whole fantasy world just because they happened to see a visiting grandparent from the other side.
It’s also a good idea to be emotionally available to them. Listen to them, hear what they are saying and be the adult in the situation. Decide whether it’s worth a trip to the child psychologist to ensure it’s not anything physiological or emotional in nature; read what you can about the abilities or signs of what your child is displaying and go from there.

For older children, chances are they won’t be talking about their experiences with their peers for fear of ridicule and isolation, so having an adult or someone they can relate their experiences to without rejection is vital. They might not have anyone except you.
It’s with this in mind that I do have to add, that if your child is displaying psychic abilities, it’s highly unlikely that they are possessed by a demon and they are certainly not evil. Unless you find them crawling half way up the wall in a freezing room, talking in a language that you don’t understand showing super-human strength, then there’s no need to call in the exorcist. Truly. The amount of ignorance and fear that is dished out from some quarters regarding psychic abilities really disturbs me. Some of these kids are already feeling isolated and to have that amount of negative, ill-informed judgment thrown at them from the people who are supposed to love and support them beggars belief. They are not evil. They are children that have a gift, and for some of them a gift they would love to return for the chance of normality and the acceptance of their family and peers.
In upcoming blogs, I’ll be talking about my own children’s psychic experiences, terminology used by some to describe psychic children, such as “Indigo” or “Crystal” children and of course, as always would love your thoughts, feedback and experiences should you want to share.
This is an emotive topic and one I’m expecting to generate some discussion. If that goes towards helping just one child, it will be worth it.
