Introduction to the Bedroom

Ah, the boudoir….a place where there’s an abundance of paranormal action! Perhaps this is because it’s the place where we spend every night hovering between reality and dreams; where shadows played upon our imaginations as little children, believing with certainty that there was something in our cupboard or under the bed, scaring us into calling out for our parents….

Not everything that happens in the bedroom happens at night either (ok people, keep it clean…). As we well know, ghostly goings-on can occur at any time of day and I actually had a day time paranormal encounter in my bedroom, when I was just 11 years old…..

I had a wind-up jewelry box that when the lid was opened, played a tinkly little version of Brahms Lullaby, while a little pink ballerina twirled around with her arms in the air, and I loved it. My mother used to comment every time I had my jewelry box open that it was her father’s favourite piece of music. As we lived in England, and her parents in Australia, Mum missed her father a great deal and referenced him often. I will never forget the day she received news that he had passed away suddenly in hospital, it was heartbreaking.

A few weeks later following my grandfather’s death, I was sitting on my bed, when my music box started playing suddenly. What made it so scary for me was that the lid was down at the time. I flew out of my room, crying hysterically to Mum about what had happened. Rather than joining me in my hysteria which I fully expected her to do, Mum instead was overjoyed, declaring with absolute certainty, ‘darling that was Grandpa!’ She promptly took the music box out of my room (for which I was profoundly grateful), and kept it in her room.  Sure enough, a few days later upon my return from school, Mum excitedly told me how the music box started playing (with the lid down of course) while she was making the bed. It was absolute proof to her that her father was saying hello and that he was alright. She didn’t seem so sad after that.

While it creeped me out at the time, in retrospect, it was a beautiful message from Grandpa, to both his grand-daughter and daughter that he was ok and we weren’t to worry. That message is all the more poignant now that my beautiful mother has passed on too and I’m sure they’re listening to Brahms Lullaby together now J

Please share your paranormal bedroom story, I would love to hear from you!
